The works of one hundred great composers.
Abstract The music of the one hundred composers in this book is heard today in the concert hall and opera house, over the radio, and on the phonograph and high-fidelity equipment. To know something of the personalities and problems of the men who wrote this music is to enjoy it tenfold. Thus it is the intention of this book to introduce you to the great men of music and to increase your listening pleasure. These thumbnail sketches, arranged in chronological order, present the basic facts of each composer's life and his chief contributions to the rich fabric of our musical history. A detailed appendix lists the principal works of each composer. And for quick reference there is an alphabetical index. With its lively and readable style, its compact format, its wealth of information and its ready-reference features, this book will provide new perspectives in listening to great music.
